Watch you go
Cross the street like a dream out my window
Sucking nicotine down my throat
Thinking of you giving head
You said
You wondered ’bout the world
Well, I have since I was a little girl
Watching white birds graze the hedge
Took me all this long to figure out
It’s not worth it if I can’t touch the ground
Can’t believe I let it turn me ’round
Turn me onto you
I see horses running wild, I wish
I could feel like that for just a minute
Would you come with me, or would you resist?
Oh, could you just give in?
I see horses and I know there’s a way
I hear thunder, oh, and I start to break
Would you come with me or would you resist?
Oh, could you just give in?
Have you ever rode a horse? If you haven’t let me tell you, you’re missing out. A thing I hate about riding horses is they say that you need to break a horse in order to ride it, and I don’t think that’s true. See a horse won’t allow you to ride it if it doesn’t trust you, the only thing that matters to the horse is the trust. People think by forcing a horse to be rode over time it convinces the horse to trust you, which is true, but unnecessary.
I think people are like horses. People can sense energy and intention, and through that is where people either trust you or get skittish and run off. When we’re building a relationship with a person we don’t just jump on their back until they’re comfortable, that would be kinda fucking nuts. So why do we do it with horses?
Horses are majestic, and honestly I bet if you saw one in the wild with persistence and love you could get it to come to you, to trust you, and eventually to allow you to ride it.
The reason we break horses is no one wants to wait. It’s the hurry and the harm right? Everyone wants everything, no matter the cost, they’re longing to live in a dream. We can’t let go to all that we think we know. Those are words sung by Dallas Green and he’s right. The world we currently live in is chasing instant gratification. Following trends, buying things because other people say they’re cool.
There’s a woman I’m… intrigued by. I like to use the term Maggie Rogers uses when you have a crush, instead of crush which sounds childish, she says potential lover. Something about that warms my heart.
Anyways when I listen to this song I think about that woman, because she feels like what I imagine it takes to gain a wild horses trust. See you can go to a place and ride a horse that’s used to it, but those horses have been doing it forever. It’s interesting to go to those places too, because you can see who’s scared, whose character might be flawed. You can also see who’s confident, and who is trusted by the horse. If a horse trusts you I probably trust you. It’s like dogs. If my dog didn’t like you, I definitely didn’t like you.
Women and horses have a lot in common I believe. Both have a calming presence about them. Both are majestic. Both need time to gain trust. You can build trust with someone so wild and free in one of two ways. You force it, which is wrong. Or you gently over time just show the horse that you’re its friend, you don’t want to hurt it, your intentions are pure. You want to care for the horse and love the horse.
You want to see the horse run wild and free. Have you ever seen a horse running in a field? It really is a feeling I wish I could feel. Shit I imagine if I was naked running in a field I’d probably feel good too, because you’re connected to Mother Nature. You’re grounded, the most important thing in life. Something about watching animals be animals reminds you that these concrete prisons we’ve built are not the way we’re supposed to be living. We’re supposed to live with the land not on it. Someday I look forward to the day when I own a home with land, and horses, and I can live with the land, not on it. First I need to find a horse who I can show my intentions are pure to, that I want to care for and love. By the way we’re not talking about horses anymore.
Would you come with me or would you resist?

J.
