Burn the Candle at Both ends

Kimbra is one of my favorite female artists, music wise, writing wise, human wise. She was a big part of why I started a blog in the first place. She released a new song today called “The Robin” and I fucking love it. It’s the perfect wind down, or wind up song. Perfect to start or end the day. I just got changed into my lounge wear after not having the best day. I immediately put the song on the decompress and words started flying around my head. This is what they said.

Burning the candle at both ends, I flew,

In a whirlwind of life, never to construe,

The toll it took on my weary soul,

As exhaustion’s waves began to roll.

In the hustle and bustle, I lost my way,

As night turned into dawn, and night into day,

But as the flames flickered, nearing their end,

I realized it was time to amend.

To start anew, with a candle unburned,

To savor life’s moments, not just be churned,

By the grind and the rush, a fresh chance to find,

Balance and peace, in the daily grind.

I’ll light the way with a steady hand,

No longer burning at both ends, but planned,

A life where candle’s gentle glow,

Illuminates the path that I’ll now stow.

Pinkies up, J.
