To some degree this blog was created out of me copying someone else. Her name is Kimbra and she’s a famous singer songwriter from New Zealand. She has a blog on a website called substack. When I read it I realized that maybe writing would be good for me too, help me let out some thoughts, maybe connect with some people. It seemed like there couldn’t be harm in it. I question that a little now.
Anyways sometimes she just writes a blog sharing a piece of writing she came across that she enjoys, some art, something she saw and wants to share with others. Tonight we do the same thing. The following poem I guess you could call it, is by Donna Ashworth, written September 16, 2021. I enjoyed it and I hope you do too. See ya down the road! J
“You Don’t Just Lose Someone Once”
You don’t just lose someone once
you lose them over and over,
sometimes in the same day.
When the loss, momentarily forgotten,
creeps up,
and attacks you from behind.
Fresh waves of grief as the realization hits
home,
they are gone.
Again.
You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every time you open your
eyes to a new dawn,
and as you awaken,
so does your memory,
so does the jolting bolt of lightning that rips
into your heart,
they are gone.
Again.
Losing someone is a journey,
not a one-off.
There is no end to the loss,
there is only a learned skill on how to stay
afloat,
when it washes over.
Be kind to those who are sailing this stormy
sea,
they have a journey ahead of them,
and a daily shock to the system each time
they realize,
they are gone,
Again.
You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every day,
for a lifetime.
