Two Coins

Northwest is where I’m headed, underneath the golden sky. I’m searching for a wisdom that every man seeks to find. I’ll be honest and potentially save you some time if you’re not interested; This blog is going to be a love letter of sorts to the city of Toronto. I’ve been to Toronto and surrounding area 2 or 3 times now and I want to come back less every time.

Something about this time of year makes me wish I lived in Toronto. You know how in the weather app on your phone you can have multiple places? Toronto is one of my three. For me it represents humility, kindness, like a better version of Boston.

From the moment I set foot in the bustling streets, I’d always felt a sense of belonging, like Toronto could be home forever, not just for a visit to see my favorite music acts who also hail from there. I remember butterflies in my stomach as I drove over the Queen Elizabeth Way bridge, into Burlington. Not far from Toronto now. Every sign in kilometers, feeling a sense of safety, like almost being home from a trip away.

The diversity of cultures through the neighborhoods, each as welcoming as the last. It’s a part of Toronto and locals embrace it. You can eat world class food of all cultures, and while poutine is typically better in Montreal according to critics, it’s special to eat in Toronto too. Toronto is where I had my first legal drink, which I actually only took one sip of to say I did it.

While the seasons change, Toronto is always beautiful. The people are warm and welcoming. Despite being from Boston they accepted me as their own. The sense of community in Toronto is one I long for now in Boston.

Toronto is a love story to me. I cherish the moments I’ve spent there, and cannot wait for the next moments spent there, Maybe some day it’ll become the permeant place…

Where the skies are gold not gray, J.
